FAQ
How long does it take to incorporate a company in Mexico?
LT Extended is a transparent firm and, for that reason, has no problem stating the reality: in Mexico, the complete process takes between 3 and 4 months depending on the type of entity, the state, and notary availability.
This timeline cannot be shortened because it depends on the schedules of various Mexican government authorities, not on our speed.
If you need to operate before the process is complete, the shelter model lets you start from Day 1 and then migrate to your own company once it is fully set up.
Can a foreigner open a company in Mexico?
Yes. As a general rule, Mexico allows 100% foreign investment in the vast majority of sectors. There are some industries that have certain restrictions regarding the percentage of foreign ownership and corporate governance requirements. When you request a free consultation with us, we will advise you on what those limits are and how other companies have worked around them.
Additionally, foreign investments generally require some additional steps — such as a permit from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and enrollment with the National Foreign Investment Registry (RNIE). We advise and coordinate that entire process on your behalf as part of our incorporation service.
What is the shelter model and how does it work?
The shelter model allows you to hire employees, invoice clients, and operate in Mexico under our legal entity, without needing to have your own company incorporated. You retain full operational control: you decide who to hire, what to produce or sell. We assume the formal legal, tax, and labor responsibility.
It is the ideal solution for exploring the market or seizing an immediate business opportunity without incurring the costs and months that setting up a business in Mexico typically requires.
How much does it cost to incorporate a company in Mexico?
Costs vary depending on the type of entity (S.A. de C.V., S. de R.L. de C.V., and S.A.P.I. are the most common), the amount of share capital, the notary, and in some cases the industry.
In our free consultation we provide a fixed, transparent quote — no hidden costs — tailored to your specific situation.
What type of entity should I choose: S.A. de C.V. or S. de R.L. de C.V.?
It depends on your industry, number of shareholders, financing needs, and corporate structure. The S.A. de C.V. is better suited for companies seeking third-party capital or with many shareholders, but it typically comes with corporate governance requirements that are outdated and inflexible. The S. de R.L. de C.V. offers greater operational flexibility and is preferred by foreign corporate groups. Neither structure is appropriate for every type of project.
In our free consultation we advise you at no cost on selecting the right structure.
Can I start with the shelter model and incorporate my own company later?
Exactly — that is one of the most common uses of the shelter model.
Many companies explore the market for 3 to 12 months under our entity and, once the business model is validated, incorporate their own corporation. We facilitate that transition in an orderly way, with no interruption to operations.
Are the additional services included?
Whether additional services are engaged depends on each project.
In our experience, once the incorporation process is complete, companies typically move to additional services at the level that fits their business stage. We are proud to say that LT Extended’s service is unmatched.
In the shelter model, accounting, payroll, and some legal advisory services are included.
During our free consultation we can help you identify which additional services you need and present our pricing.
