Good to know

Starting a company in Mexico as a foreigner

The questions foreign founders ask us most before they begin.

Can a foreigner open a company in Mexico?
Yes. Mexico allows 100% foreign ownership in most sectors. A few sectors have specific limits on investment percentage or corporate governance — during a free consultation we’ll walk you through what applies to your case and how other companies have structured around it. We also handle the additional requirements every foreign investment needs: the SRE permit and registration with the National Registry of Foreign Investments (RNIE).
Do I really pay nothing upfront?
Correct. We start working the day you say go, and you’re charged once your official incorporation documents are issued. No deposit, no retainer, no progress payments. It’s the same standard we’d want if we were the ones hiring.
How long does it take to incorporate a company in Mexico?
Left to the ordinary process, 3 to 6 months, depending on entity type, the state and notary availability — that covers the incorporation deed, tax registration (RFC), a Mexican bank account and employer registration with IMSS. We compress that to 2–4 months on our standard track, or about 1 month on the fast track.
Why does it cost more to have the company ready in 1 month?
Because you’re not buying a different company — you’re buying back three months, and that time has a real cost on our side. The one-month track means reserved priority slots with our notaries, a dedicated case manager instead of a shared queue, steps prepared in parallel that are normally done one after another, expedited handling of the SRE permit and apostilles, and someone physically chasing each filing rather than waiting for it. The end result is identical to the 2–4 month option: same company, same registrations, same documents. You’re paying for the calendar, not for a better product. If your deadline allows it, take the standard track and keep the difference.
How can the incorporation be free if I hire the tax service?
Because we make our living on the ongoing accounting relationship, not on the paperwork that starts it. If you’re going to need monthly bookkeeping and tax filings in Mexico anyway — and every operating company does — we’d rather absorb the incorporation, notary fees included, and earn your business month by month. There’s no minimum term attached: if we stop being worth it, you leave.
What are the $930 USD in notary and registry fees?
They’re third-party costs, not our fee: the notary public who issues the incorporation deed, the filing with the Public Registry of Commerce, and the company name-use permit from the Ministry of Economy. We pass them through at cost with the receipts, and if the final amount comes in lower, you pay the lower amount. On the tax service plan we cover them entirely.
Which entity type is right for me — S.A. de C.V. or S. de R.L. de C.V.?
It depends on your business, number of partners, financing needs and corporate structure. S.A. de C.V. tends to suit companies raising outside capital or with many partners, though it comes with more rigid governance requirements. S. de R.L. de C.V. offers more operating flexibility and is often preferred by foreign corporate groups. Neither is automatically right for every project — we help you choose in your free consultation, at no cost.
What is the legal membership, and what can I use it for?
It’s a credit against our legal catalog that comes free with any service: Bronze ($500 USD) with the standard and fast incorporation tracks, Silver ($1,500 USD) with the tax and accounting plan. You spend it on whatever your company actually needs — trademark registration, Mexico-compliant employment contract templates, shareholder meeting minutes, hiring and termination paperwork, contract review, corporate resolutions. It’s handled by our lawyers, not by a template generator, and you decide where it goes.
Are accounting, payroll and legal support included?
On the Incorporation + Tax Service plan, yes — monthly bookkeeping, tax filings and payroll are the service, and the Silver legal membership comes with it. On the standalone 2–4 month and 1 month tracks they’re not included, but you can add them at any time. If you add the tax service upfront, the incorporation itself becomes free.
Are there hidden costs?
No. The price you select is the price: our fee, plus the $930 USD of third-party notary and registry costs shown next to it, which we pass through at cost. On the tax service plan even those are covered. Anything unusual about your case — a regulated sector, an atypical shareholding structure — we tell you before you commit, not after.
Am I locked into a long contract?
No. Every service is flexible with no mandatory minimum terms. We’d rather earn your stay through the quality of our work than tie you down with a contract.
